Read Write Inc. Phonics gets children reading a writing-FAST!

Read the press release form Maryland Primary School, a Read Write Inc. Model School in London. Maryland was visited earlier this year by Sir Jim Rose author of the Rose Review of Reading.

Read Write Inc. is an inclusive literacy programme for all children in Foundation Stage to Year 4 who are working below National Curriculum level 2. It is also suitable for children in older year groups who have significant learning difficulties, including specific literacy problems.

The Read Write Inc. programmes are being used with great success to support children of all ages who have been designated as dyslexic. Our programmes provide teachers with step-by-step guidance, enabling them to teach children to read and write using a simple, logical and highly successful method.

The children learn:
  • to read effortlessly so they can put all their energy into comprehending what they read
  • to spell effortlessly so they can put all their energy into composing what they write
READING
The children:
  • learn 44 sounds and the corresponding letters/letter groups using simple picture prompts
  • learn to read words using sound blending
  • read lively stories featuring words they have learned to sound out
  • show that they comprehend the stories by answering 'Find It' and 'Prove It' discussion questions
WRITING
The children:
  • learn to write the letters/letter groups which represent the 44 sounds
  • learn to write words by saying the sounds and graphemes
  • write simple sentences
  • compose stories based on picture strips
  • compose a range of texts using discussion prompts
