About Ruth Miskin and Read Write Inc.
Ruth has taught for 25 years, 12 as a Head Teacher in Plymouth, Leeds and Tower Hamlets, London.
During her time as Head Teacher in Tower Hamlets, she developed a
simple way of teaching reading and writing that proved very successful.
Every child who completed her programme learned to read fluently and
confidently.
After leaving Tower Hamlets she went on to develop a full literacy programme called Read Write Inc. which other schools have adopted as an alternative to the National Literacy Strategy.
About Read Write Inc.
The systematic and lively programme is organised by an in-school manager
- All staff (teachers and assistants) are trained together by one
of our trainers who have taught and managed the programme themselves
(no cascade training is used)
- The children read and write for an hour a day, grouped according
to their reading level. (Two, 20 minute sessions for Reception
children.)
Children work with a partner to practise what they have been taught.
This means that all children participate during the whole lesson; there
is no 'down time'.
