Read Write Inc. Fresh Start follows a similar format to Read Write Inc. but is aimed at children in Years 5, 6, 7 who are working below National Curriculum level 3. It uses age appropriate text and is also suitable for older students who are working at this level.
How does Read Write Inc. Fresh Start Work?
- Pupils are taught the 44 sounds systematically, as three sets of Speed Sounds, in lively fast paced lessons to crack the code
- Once they have learnt a few sounds, pupils quickly start to sound blend them into words
- When pupils can sound blend they progress to the Fresh Start Modules
The 34 Fresh Start Modules
- Lively, carefully levelled and age-appropriate stories, including non-fiction texts, which pupils have the phonic knowledge to read. This means they are assured success right form the start
- Comprehension questions to check they understand what they read
- Writing activities linked to texts that build your pupils writing skills step-by-step, from words to simple sentences to guided compositions
